Why Vaal Rawdah

Built by people who live on this water.

There's nothing corporate about Vaal Rawdah. It's a working stretch of shoreline — and a real Bonsmara and Charolais cattle farm — where the fish are honest, the mornings are cold and bright, and everyone finds their own patch of bank. Come for a day, camp the weekend, or settle into a chalet.

Wait for the bite

Still water. Then the float goes under.

That quiet moment before a carp takes — it's why people keep coming back. Watch the water, keep your line ready, and let the morning do the rest.

On the water

Fishing at Vaal Rawdah

1.5 km of open shoreline where the Wilge River meets the dam — deep channels, quiet bays and plenty of room to cast.

01

What you'll catch

Healthy carp and barbel (catfish) are the mainstay, with the occasional yellowfish. Bring your sweet and savoury baits — the fish here are well fed and strong.

02

Where to fish

Spread out along the full 1.5 km bank. The river mouth runs deep close in, the bays are calmer for families, and there's structure for those chasing something bigger.

03

Best seasons

Fishing is good year-round. Warmer months bring the most action; crisp winter mornings are quiet and beautiful. Ask us about current conditions and dam levels when you book.

Landed a good one? Tag @vaalrawdah — we love seeing what you catch.

Farm & nature

Meet the grass puppies

Vaal Rawdah is a real Bonsmara and Charolais cattle farm. Our gentle herd graze the banks alongside the campsites, and the wetland teems with birdlife — herons, kingfishers and weavers. A proper unplugged family day: fishing, farm animals, open space and fresh air.

Please admire the animals from a distance — do not approach or feed them.
